What in the world is Dandies & Quaintrelles?

Dandies & Quaintrelles seemed to appear suddenly out of nowhere in 2009 with the launch of the first Tweed Ride set in the nation’s capital. Over the years, the formal structure of the group and its official intentions remained shrouded in mystery.

The group led bespoke cyclists through the streets twice a year. Spring inspires a leisurely smile-filled parade of cyclists clad in Seersucker, breezy linens, and the like. Every fall brings a day of a tweed-filled dreamscape of vintage bikes, tilted caps, fancy hosiery, and such.

The group experimented with a full moon night ride. Its attendees scampered through the moonlit streets dressed in white. Despite the occasional request for additional events, the group has remained content with two seasonal cycling-based offerings.

Eric Channing

Founder

Eric Channing is a lifelong passionate cyclist known to dabble in sartorially inspired self-presentation. A somewhat impulsive tendency led to his ambitious announcement of a desire to organize a local event inspired by its more strict and formal London-based predecessor, “The London Tweed Run*.” (Despite its name, no running in tweed has been documented.)

With the success of the first event, Channing became wedded to the annual production of a highly desired continuing tradition.

Holly Bass

Co-Conspirator

Ms. Bass is known locally for her dedication to performance art as well as her bright smile. It’s said that Bass inspired the spring follow-up to the Tweed Ride during the humble yet packed celebration of the First Tweed Ride. “I have one word for you, Channing,” Bass whispered. “Seersucker.”

Gary Nabors

Pinch Hitter

In more recent years, Gary stepped up to help maintain interest in a small group of committed volunteers when Mr. Channing became overly distracted with other cycling-related interests revolving around sport. Gary helped set the dates, created artwork, and managed administrative affairs required to pull off a seemingly effortless occasion.

The Participants & The Players

It takes a village on wheels.

Fidgety Feet

The exquisite dance troupe brought its fancy footwork and elegance to every post-ride celebration.

Ride Marshalls

15 years of volunteer rider assistance to get us through the Nation’s Capital safely. We’ve had a rotating cast with some mainstays. A smile and deep hat tip in appreciation of their diligence.

The Paparazzo

A different mix of photography masters have joined us over the years. A few shutterbugs make it their mission to join us and document the magic of every outing.

Dandy Wellington

Entertainer and personality Dandy Wellington performed for over years and and moved the crowds in our largest post ride events.

Velo Support

Ride support comes every season from Velocity Co-op, based out of Alexandria, Virginia.

Helping Hands

Many folks become hooked after their first ride with us. Some of those folks become involved during the lead up to our events and during gametime to ensure the good times happen.
